The MEAN GREEN Welding Lens. - Medium Contrast, ALL PURPOSE/PROCESS Lens. 2x4.25 Shade #10 Shown.  Although this photo doesn't show it, there is actually more blue in this lens when you look through it than what you see in this picture. This lens does not pass much yellow or orange light as a typical green lens will instead passing more blue and cyan light and low spectrum red light.  This lens is a great all around lens suitable to any welding need and is perfect for color blind welders that can't focus in blue or amber lenses or regular green lenses. This lens uses the same secondary filter as the MELLOW WELD and is just as thick but is applied to a black glass filter lens not a brown/green glass lens. This gives it a light Emerald/Peridot Green/Blue color but cuts smoke, haziness and flare far more effectively with sharper detail clarity than a regular green lens. The old Lincoln Super-Viz lenses are a good comparison to this lens. If you love the old Lincoln Super-Viz, you'll love this lens too. Shades #9 to shade #13 available. These lenses can vary in color slightly from shade to shade to slightly more green, to slightly more blue. My control over this is limited. $124.99 + $7.40 Shipping

OPTI-COOL WELDING LENSES.  Passive Glass lenses for the professional welder.

The MELLOW WELD COOL - BLUE. - Medium Contrast. Shade #10 Shown.2x4.25.  The AOWC rival lens.

This lens as stated on the other pages is my best selling lens. It rivals the AOWC in color, clarity and field of view. It's a hair thick and slot load hoods must be filed out a hair to get it to fit in smoothly. It will fit virtually every hood EXCEPT "slider" type hoods. I have photos of this lens and a genuine AOWC side by side and it very very difficult to tell them apart when looking through them. Many who own both prefer the Mellow over the AOWC. Best part though is they are cheaper and in ready supply. The AOWC was discontinued in 1990 for ECONOMIC reasons.  This lens is suited to every process and amp range and is a genuine All Around lens equally suited to every welding need. Available in Shades #8-13. $164.99 +$7.40 shipping

The MAGENTA MADNESS - Low Contrast.Shade #11 Shown. 2x4.25. THIS LENS IS RIDICULOUS.

It swathes the entire illuminated area in what appears to be a deep Indigo Blue, The Arc is a Brilliant Rose-Gold and the puddle is a Magenta color. Joints stand out like they are "glowing" and especially for gouging the line sticks out like a sore thumb. This lens allows in more red and orange light than most and is not actually violet in color. It also allows in a deep cyan blue white blocking green, yellow and high range orange light. The Combination of Both deep Blue and Orange red light with a higher peak in the red frequency gives the lens the purplish appearance with the multiple colors blended and what gives the arc the brilliant gold color. This lens cuts out smoke, haze and fuzziness like a beast. Shades #8- #13 available. Price is $79.99 + $7.40 shipping.

The INSANE BLUE Welding Lens. - Low Contrast. Shade #10 Shown. 2x4.25.  Another Fairly good All purpose lens but as you can see by the color of the glowing tungsten in the photo it is fairly limited in color contrast blocking all orange and red light and limiting yellow light to only the yellow/green (peridot) color. It Passes blue, green and high yellow but blocks low yellow, orange and red light. It does not pass pure strong blue light and will not strain your eyes or cause vision problems or headaches as another companies lenses will because it passes a much broader spectrum of blue and green light over a wider range of nm instead of a focused and intense 20nm spike of pure blue light.

Here are the Medium to Low contrast welding lenses.

These lenses Limit quite a bit more visible light to lower pass levels and block more visible light entirely especially in the Yellow, Orange and Red frequencies. This narrows the field of view to a smaller area and draws your focus and attention to a more finite point. It does allow more specific clarity directly into the throat of the joint immediately under the arc and the "wetting" of the pool into the joint edges. The darker and lighter specific "black and white" approach to the limited contrast allows you to see undercut and cold lap far more clearly while you're welding allowing you to adjust your technique as required to fix it in real time.

These lenses do not have the same attenuation over the same broader range of colors as the high contrast lenses and therefore your ability to discern multiple colors and judge temperatures is more limited in the lower temperature ranges (say below 1100 deg F for carbon steel). Thus this makes these lenses far more suited to processes where faster deposit rates are utilized, higher amperage and voltage ranges and predominately thicker materials. For example: Structural Welding, Boilermaker Welders, pipe-line welders, Fab Shop Welders where FCAW, GMAW Spray transfer, SMAW and Innershield FCAW are used and for materials 1/8"+ thickness.

Now these lenses CAN be used and very well too for non-consumable welding especially at higher amps.  But are evenly effective for thinner materials and lower amp/voltage ranges, but you may need to "drop" a shade to compensate for the higher blocking range of visible light and narrower field of view for applications outside the comfort zone of the lenses design.
